Volunteer

Over 1,300 Volunteers now belong to the Out of the Cold Family

The Out of the Cold Program is primarily run by volunteers and relies heavily on community support. Our volunteers come from various interfaith communities and/or the general public who may or may not belong to a faith. We accept anyone who wants to help! The dedication of our volunteers who offer their time, comfort and hospitality to the guests that use the program, is our true value.

Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone over the age of 18 at any one of our 10 host sites. A mandatory volunteer training session is held every season.

We also require volunteers for specific positions such as nurses and social workers.

Registered Nurses, Medical Doctors, Dentists and Other Health Professionals

Working independently at one host site, 1 night a week for between 10 - 20 weeks, you will provide holistic medical/nursing care, including health teaching, guidance and support to clients at our program. You will also provide basic health care such as wound care, foot care, vitamins/nutrition, pain relief and overall health check ups.

Nurses must be registered with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and experience with marginalized people is an asset.

Social Workers, Housing Workers and Addictions Counseling

Social workers specializing in addictions and/or housing are needed to provide individual therapy along with linking clients to appropriate resources. You would work independently at one host site, 1 night a week for between 10-20 weeks.
